Forster Integrative and Regenerative Medicine was created by Dr. Forster after completing her fellowship in Integrative Medicine and returning to the Philadelphia region. Dr. Forster enjoys working with motivated patients who want to take control of their own health.

Dr. Forster is a native of the Philadelphia region. She completed her medical training at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010. She is a board-certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician, having completed her residency at Temple University/Moss Rehab in 2014. She then relocated to Southern Ohio, where she served as Medical Director for an inpatient rehabilitation unit for 5 years.

Dr. Forster has a strong interest in the body’s self-healing abilities. In a quest to discover more about her own health, she enrolled in the Kresser Institute for Functional and Evolutionary Medicine training program. This opened her eyes to innovative ways patients can find their way back to wellness. She then completed Helms Medical Institute acupuncture training for physicians to broaden her scope of practice, particularly in the realm of non-pharmacologic pain management. In 2019, she and her family relocated to Erie, PA to complete an Integrative Medicine fellowship at LECOM. Her fellowship training focused on Regenerative Medicine (prolotherapy, platelet rich plasma treatments), medical acupuncture, osteopathic manipulative medicine, lifestyle and mind-body medicine.

She herself is an athlete. She trained under a board-certified Sports Medicine/Integrative Medicine physician at LECOM and has a strong interest in helping athletes of every size, shape, and ability get back to doing what they love to do. She is also a nutrition enthusiast at heart. She believes in the healing power of quality, nutrient-dense food. She practices what she preaches! When not in the clinic, Dr. Forster can be found outside moving with her husband, daughter, son, and 2 dogs. She wholeheartedly believes that what you do should bring you joy. So whether it’s working with a patient to alleviate nagging knee pain or playing in the dirt with her children, she’s striving to be present for every experience.

Dr. Forster has spent years honing her skills as an osteopathic physician. She believes deeply in the body’s innate ability to heal and return to wellness. She describes her method of practice as slow and soulful. She will spend time LISTENING to your story to get to the root of the problem. She believes many pain patterns are deeply embedded in the body and take more than what traditional medicine has to offer in order to better understand and to cure. Additionally, she believes in food as medicine. She is well-versed in nutrition and lifestyle measures to enhance healing and promote the best version of you.

Dr. Forster believes in offering in-depth and thorough integrative consultations. These consultations take more time than is allotted by our current insurance model. As such, Dr. Forster has chosen to opt-out of the current insurance model and does not take insurance. She will provide a superbill that can be submitted by the patient to insurance providers for reimbursement if desired.

Initial Consultation:

This includes a detailed history. Prior medical records and images will be reviewed as provided by the patient. A thorough physical examination will be performed. Typically, the ultrasound will be used for assessment as indicated by the physical examination. This appointment lasts approximately 60-90 minutes. An initial consultation will be performed for each patient regardless of the anticipated treatment (regenerative medicine, acupuncture, OMT) as the consultation allows us to formulate the best treatment for you at that time.

Medical Acupuncture:

Acupuncture can be used for a variety of ailments, including but not limited to: musculoskeletal pain, headaches, anxiety/depression, GI issues (IBS, GERD), infertility. Acupuncture can also be performed as a “tune up” treatment to maintain balance and fortify the immune system. Subsequent acupuncture treatments include a follow up appointment with Dr. Forster to review health and wellness goals. It may be suggested that we initiate acupuncture prior to regenerative medicine procedures as a means of calming the nervous system to allow the body to receive the injections in a better state.

* The first acupuncture treatment is free and done on the same day as the initial consultation. Together we will devise a treatment plan that best suits your needs.
** In light of current circumstances, the initial consultation will take place via telemedicine (face to face video). This will include a detailed history and a review of any past medical records/images you may provide. We will formulate a treatment plan during this encounter.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a technique used to manually break up muscle tension using a smooth tool. This technique is helpful for many musculoskeletal pain complaints as well as tension headaches.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment is a hands-on treatment to alleviate discomfort and bring the body into a more centered state. Your muscles, joints, and connective tissue will be manipulated using gentle stretching and resistance in order to ease discomfort and facilitate healing.

Cupping is a technique in which pneumatic cups are placed over the areas of muscle tension/discomfort. A partial vacuum is created using a pump, and the skin/underlying tissue is drawn up into the cup. The goal is to release stagnant blood in order to alleviate pain.

Dry Needling/Trigger Point Release

Trigger points are areas of muscle tension, which can cause referred pain into other areas of the body. These areas can be released using a small needle +/- the injection of a lidocaine solution.

Prolotherapy/Perineural Hydrodissection is an injection-based procedure, often performed under ultrasound guidance, which stimulates the body’s own innate healing mechanisms to generate tissue repair.

The process of prolotherapy involves injecting dextrose (a type of sugar water) into areas of musculoskeletal injury thereby causing local tissue trauma. The body creates an inflammatory response to this traumatized area. The body’s cells then work together to lay down new collagen in the weakened structure. Ultimately, as the tissue remodels, pain ignited by the weakened tissue resolves.

Perineural hydrodissection

(“Peri” around, “neural” nerve) is another injection-based procedure utilized to reduce nerve-type pain, which often occurs in conjunction with musculoskeletal pain. The concept of perineural hydrodissection involves injecting fluid into areas of restriction where nerve structures are prone to become entrapped. The release of these nerve structures using a dextrose (sugar water) solution has been shown to reduce neuropathic pain.
